Making Ice Cream

We are doing unit 3 Making ICe Cream for English. We agreed that we should give it a try following the recipe given in the story. I tweaked the receipe a little. Some of the children agreed to bring ziplock bags and hand towels. I prepared the ingredients.
We 'opened' our kitchen immediately after PE lesson. The children were so excited. Some of the children had the opportunity to help in preparing the ingredients. They measured the whipping cream, sugar and vanilla essence.
Once these were done, we poured the ingredients in a small ziplock bag. Then next, we made the 'freezer'. We measured and poured some salts in the ice. The tablespoons of salts help to reduce the temperature of the ice cubes so that they will not melt so quickly.
Once this was done. We put the bag of cream into the bag of ice and shook it!
Shake! Shake! Shake!
While waiting for the cream to freeze, we made our second, third and fourth bag of ice cream.

The classroom was wet and Helpful Caden immediately sprang into action. He took the initiative to mop the floor. He's caught doing good! =) Our first pack of ice cream was soon ready after about 25 mins. The pictures below were taken by Ee Teng (I think so). I was busy and I asked her to use my phone to take some pictures of her friends eating ice cream. =)

Each child is given a spoon of ice cream to try. Seriously, the ice cream tasted heavenly.. very creamy....

Grow GRow GROw GROW

We are growing some seeds in class. Planted the seeds on 8th February. The Science monitors, Spencer and Elias, are tasked to water the seeds. They are growing. We can see the young plants of green bean seeds and soya bean seeds. The chilli seeds are still growing....... taking a little long. I will post another updates of the plants when I take more pictures. =) This picture is taken on the 9th February.

Art Lesson

The children were at Creative Studio for their art lesson conducted by an external vendor from LPN. Their first task was to design a robot. They have very interesting ideas. But I cannot really tell if their robot is a girl or boy. So is Doraemon a girl or boy robot? I am totally surprised to learn that Doraemon is actually a robot! Hehee.

Swimmers

Congratulations to Alan, Yuan Ting, Shaif and Aaron for their achievement in swimming. Aaron did not receive his certificate that day as there was a printing error in his name.

We commemorated Total Defence Day yesterday. There were some activities held in the hall. One of the highlights was to see the teachers in their NS uniform. From left: Mr Ken Wong (AED), Mr Zaifar (Form Teacher of 4Grace) and Mr Kumar (OM). Mr Chew, the VP, was in uniform too but I did not manage to take a picture of him.

CNY Celebration

CNY is my next favourite celebration beside Christmas! =) As usual, the programme for this year is specially planned by the MT-Chinese department. We had a concert in the hall. We are all very entertained by the video and enjoyed the singing session. We returned to class after an hour. The children were to do some paper cutting. But before that, we learnt more about the history of paper cutting. The children were very serious and were concentrating hard while cutting. The class was so quiet.
Once they were done, a few children helped me in decorating the classroom for the best decorated class competition. This is the wall outside the classroom.Arron was very thoughtful. He brought a VCD- on lion dance to school to share with his friends. I only managed to watch a snippet. Very interesting show.
A few children came in their ethnic clothes.
And since they were so well dressed and looked absolutely stunning, I must take a picture with them! =) The pair of rabbits and the lion were drawn by our class artist, Aaron. Though I gave him such short notice, he managed to come out with such lovely drawings.

Of course with his drawings, the wall looked so much nicer! =) I must also give credit to some of the children who did a good job in cutting the paper. Cross our fingers and pray for favour that we would win the competition! =D

Caterpillars

17 pupils in the class took home the caterpillars today. It is part of the Science activity to get them to observe the life cycle of butterfly. They will bring back the caterpillars on next Monday and their partners will take over to take care of the caterpillars. Looking forward to see these caterpillars turn into butterflies.

I tried to take care of a pair of caterpillars last year. This picture shows the old skin (the top of the stick) of the caterpillar. As we have learnt in class, caterpillars moult when they grow. Anyway, my caterpillars never turn into butterflies. Sad.
